Well before the Glacatic Dark Age,
there were Cyrans. There were
not very many of them, only a few hundered or thousand. When the
Dark Age decended, the Cyrans decided that they could ride it out
untouched. They are one of the few societies that actually stayed
literate and technologically oriented throughout this period. They
also stayed hidded. If other more violent planets were to know of
the power of the Cyrans, Cyrus's Star would be under constant
bombardment. Cyrans spread across the sector, and probably across the
galaxy. They developed a trading system across the planets local to their
hub, Cyrus's Star, and over the years, their populations grew to
the hundereds of millions on these planets. The Cyran Empire was ruled from Cyrus's Star by surviving members of the three royal Triconian families, the Reynolds, the Hawks, and the Sterlings. Over the course of the Dark Age, other families derived from some of the original Cyrans came to power on their planets, and were accepted as part of the Cyran aristocracy. The Mojavi, the the D'vorre, and the Forensian families.
The introduction of these new families upset the harmony of the empire, and there were many falling outs between the families. This has lead parts of the Old Cyran empire to maintain themselves very independently, with animosity to many other families. When the new Triconians found the Cyran empire, they upset it quite a bit as well. Showing that the Hawks and the Sterlings were related on Earth to the families on Cyrus's Star by genetic testing was of monumental upset. This caused the Sterling family to try to regain power by force; the Reynolds family to kidnap many people; the ruler to be assassinated, and finally, a foreigner to be placed into the ruling position at Cyrus's Star.
This power struggle split the Cyran empire into two, some say three factions. First, there were the Cyrans who joined the Triconians. Mostly the Hawk and Sterling families. Second, the planets under the influence of the Reynolds family refused to join, they are considered the Cyran Nationalists. Then there are the neutral cyran worlds, and the smalled families who still remain somewhat tied to either the Reynolds, Hawk or Sterling families. Some of these planets are considered neutral, the rest either Nationalist or Triconian.
