Here is an alternate description of the
current politics within the Cyran Empire. Please mail to me saying which one you like better. I can't tell at the moment, which means both are pretty sucky. Thanks
The Cyran Empire was united and holding off the Orisians easily with a buffer of neutral worlds before the onset of the neo-Triconians on the scene. Their planets were ruled from the planet of Cyrus' Star, under the three families of royal Cyrans, the Reynolds, the Hawks, and the Sterlings. The empire split between families when the new Triconian leader Jake Stalin came to Cyrus' Star to demand a seat in the court, claiming to be an ancient blood relative of the Sterling Family. Trechary occured and the Reynolds family planets did not join with the Triconians, but the Hawk family grudginly did. The Sterling Family was so small at this time, they didn't even have thier own planet, but nonetheless proved to be a big source of this trechary.
Six families make up the majority of the Cyran empire altogether, the three Royal families are the Reynolds house, the Hawk house, and the Sterling house. The Reynolds are Cygenome, and are historically consistent in their smart use of power. The Hawk family has split a number of times, and yet considered Cyran, are fiercely human, and won't let any of their children mate with any modified genomes. The Starhawk family is the oldest known original Hawk family. The Hawk name proper was readopted by Geulus Osipter when he was elected by the families the seat of Cyran power 75 years ago. The Sterlings are a mix of human, Cygenome, and Sterling genomes, and have been headstrong and careless of their lineage, yet nonetheless retain a place out of habit in the aristocracies since it was thier progenitors who ruled the ancient Triconian Empire...well, it's rumored.
The other three houses of the Cyran empire are the Forensian house, the Mojavi house, and the D'vorre house. The Foresians became very powerful business-people about 1500 years in the past, when a dispute and assassination from the Hawk family stole thier crown and forced them out of the ancient triumverate. Still very influencial, are mostly forgotten about except economically. The Mojavi house started out as a prideful group of ancient Native Americans who thought their salvation was in the adoption of the Cygenome in their families. They are not very big, but have a lot of pride, and are very respected in places where the larger families are not, notably neutral worlds across the sector. The D'vorre family has become a huge Cygenome crime-family, as far as anyone cares, and has not done anything benevolent besides maintian their own brand of justice in the Cyran influence. This family turned practical power into thier own form of aristocracy.
